The Better Public Building Initiative was launched by the Prime Minister in 2000. It aims to encourage the adoption of quality design principles in all new public buildings, regardless of size and cost by promoting the need for, and benefits of well designed public buildings.

Are you a design or architecture student in higher education? Have you got the imagination to come up with exciting ideas to engage young people in their community? Can you re-design an underused space in your local neighbourhood?

Good design is not a costly luxury. In fact, best practice in integrating design and construction delivers better value for money – as well as better buildings. And this is especially apparent when attention is paid to the full costs of a building over its lifetime.
